Fighting the stigma of mental illness, every day.

Our Purpose
Sedona House is a clubhouse which creates a restorative environment for adults with mental illness. Our participants are members, not clients or patients, who work side by side with clubhouse staff in operating and accomplishing the goals of the clubhouse.

Sedona House is sponsored by Seminole Behavioral Healthcare, a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization, and the State of
Florida Department of Children and Families.

" We believe that recovery from mental illness is possible for all."

What is a clubhouse?

The first clubhouse, Fountain House in New York City, was founded in 1948 by former state hospital clients and staff. Since then it has been replicated more than four hundred times around the world. The Clubhouse concept is still a radically different way of working in the field of community mental health. Most program models still focus on assessing a person’s level of disability and limiting the expectations based on that assessment. Most use teaching or treatment as the vehicle for providing rehabilitation. In a Clubhouse the expectations are high and mutual work, mutual relationships, and meaningful opportunities in the community are the vehicles of choice.
